Frequently Asked Questions
What are the benefits of drumming for wellness?
Drumming promotes stress relief, balances and regulates the nervous system, enhances emotional expression, and boosts creativity. It’s a great way to release tension, build a connection with others, and tap into a deeper sense of mindfulness. The repetive nature of drumming can be meditative. Drumming helps practice focus, attention, and coordination; it's really all about organizing the body, mind, & beat.
Can anyone drum, even if they’ve never played before?
Absolutely! If you can count to TWO then you can drum. There is no age restriction on fulfilling your drummer dreams. No musical experience is required; just bring an open mind and a willingness to explore rhythm!
Here's a little more about my drumming experience...
I began my own drummer journey at the age of 36 when I decided to take lessons alongside my kids with a private instructor. One of my lifelong dreams was to play in an all female rock band (I do now - check out Hott Mess!). My first goal was simply to learn to play A SINGLE song. I never dreamed back then that I would reach any of my goals, let alone be passing on my knowledge to new students. Drumming became more than a hobby - it's a passion that also serves my own health and wellness. It has brought me tremendous focus, fun, strength, and community. When I became an entreprenuer, I dedicated one day each week for this practice, both as a teacher and student. My unofficial musical nickname "Baby Drummer" aptly describes my manner of learning; approach everything with a beginners mind, and teach what you know! I believe that all teachers must also be students, and I still maintain regular lessons with my own instructor to continue building my skills.

What's Drum Yasa?
Drum Yasa is a family friendly, percussion based, gentle yoga class incorporating rhythm, somatic dance movements, and vocal yoga exercises. This class is suitable for students years 6 and up, elderly grandparents, parents, siblings, caregivers, and is special needs friendly, adaptable for chair yoga, and good for those recovering from injury. Through the use of dance, rhythm, music, and most importantly PLAY, this class is meant to facilitate connection to the physical body, interaction, and bonding between families. It is a great choice to expand your micro school's physical education program or to add to a birthday party or other special event. Contact me to see if Drum Yasa would be a fit for your space.
Are you the right drum teacher for me or my child?
I am best suited to work with brand new students, with a focus on the elementary age group. I accept beginner drum students as young as five years old. I believe that learning should be accessible to all populations, and as teachers we must meet each student where they are at! As head of a neurodiverse household, I am committed to accomodating special needs learners, such as autism or Down syndrome. Sound like the right fit? Send me a message and let's book an introductory lesson! If you are an intermediate or advanced drummer, I may not be the right instructor for you, but I will happily refer you to one of my colleagues at Mosaic Music.
